NANOCON-012, a two day International Conference on “Nano Technology- Innovative Materials, Processes, Products, and Applications” was organised by Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University (BVDU) jointly in association with North Carolina A&T State University, Greensboro, USA, Tuskegee University, Alabama, USA (TU) and Centre for Materials for Electronics Technology (CMET ), Department of Information Technology, Government of India during October 18-19, 2012 at Pune, India. The conference was organised in the sprawling, picturesque, serene and beautiful Bharati Vidyapeeth University campus at Pune - Satara road. The Grand Inaugural Ceremony took place in the C V Raman Hall. It was graced by eminent dignitaries from India and abroad. It had Dr. Ravi Grover, Member, Atomic Energy Commission, Principal Advisor, Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India and Director, HBNI was the chief guest and Dr. Barry Burks, Vice Chancellor, Research and Economic Development, NCAT, USA was the Guest of Honor. The Chief Patron for the conference, Dr. Patangrao Kadam, Hon Chancellor BVU, Dr. Shinichi Kikkawa, Vice President, The Ceramic Society of Japan and Vice Dean, Hokkaido University, Japan chaired the inaugural function. The function had the presence of patrons of the conference Dr. Shivajirao Kadam, Hon' Vice Chancellor, Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University and Dr. Vishwajeet Kadam, Hon Secretary, Bharati Vidyapeeth. It also had the dignified presence of Prof. Jitendra Yakhmi, Director, BARC, Dr. Ajit Kelkar, Chairman, Joint School of Nano Sciences and Nano Technology, NCA&T, USA, Dr. Reshef Tenne, Director, Helen and Martin Kimmel Center for Nanoscale Science, Member, Israel Academy of Science, Israeland Dr. Dinesh Amalnerkar, Executive Director, Centre for Materials for Electronics Technology, Pune. In a span of two days four plenary speeches, 20 keynote addresses were delivered by prominent and eminent experts in their respective field. There were 21 sessions chaired by eminent personalities from academics and industry. As the numbers of sessions had increased, three parallel sessions were conducted simultaneously for two days to accommodate all the papers. The conference received a great response, with significant participation from more than 18 countries namely the USA, the UK, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Bulgaria, Spain Austria, Israel, Saudi Arabia, India etc. Total of 250 research papers were received, out of which 165 papers for oral presentations and 25 papers for poster presentation were selected. The Proliferation of Nanotechnology is fuelled by expectations of dramatic improvements in the diverse interdisciplinary fields of nanomedicine, space technology, energy, defence, electronics and agriculture. To achieve these expectations and create a pool of knowledge resources in Nanotechnology, this Institute is organizing an International conference in the field of Nanotechnology biannually.
